“Mafra Flower” Pendant was inspired by the flowers aligned on top of the four arches inside the Dome of the Basilica of Mafra National Palace with a perfect semi-circle supported by Corinthian semi-columns. These semi-columns unite on the base of the dome, in the centre of the Basilica’s Latin Cross plan with 63 meters in length. We also have flowers represented along the radial lines inside the Dome of the Basilica, including in the centre of the dome where there is a circle with a frame of flowers involving the Holy Spirit represented by the White Dove. So, the whole dome has the representation of many flowers, a symbol of Spiritual Elevation. We reinterpreted these flowers and transformed them with a new design. On the 7th of July 2019, the Mafra National Palace was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, a long-awaited event.
On a first stage, its design was produced with a sketch inspired by the Dome in the Basílica of Mafra National Palace. A second stage followed using 3D Modeling with a specific parametric 3D design software – Fusion and AutoCAD – that was applied together with the 3D Printing Technology on a Formlabs 3D Printer producing a castable wax resin piece. On a third stage, this resin piece was handed over to a Jewellery Workshop, to the work of a certified traditional goldsmith that transformed it into a precious silver Jewel. These three steps were carefully executed and monitored with a special attention to every detail, so that the result would be a unique Jewel with a special meaning and top quality.
A flower stands as a symbol for Spiritual Perfection, for Spiritual Elevation inspired by Nature. A flower also represents the limit of Human Life, the end of a Life Cycle and the beginning of another. Flowers have always been a source of inspiration for many poets and artists. It represents perfection and the spiritual centre. A flower is associated with the sense of smell, with the sense of perfume. A flower represents the right balance coming from Nature, so it is Sacred, and for this reason it’s represented many times on Sacred ground, such as the Basilica of Mafra National Palace. Each type of flower as a more specific meaning, and the ones represented in the Dome of the Basilica resembles the sunflowers with its beautiful large sized petals. The sunflowers are many times associated with the notion of Eternity, they represent the source for the Infinite, and they are a symbol of Hope and Happiness.
