Spark + Dreams

Currently, in 3D+Dreams we have five 3D Printers, including two SLA, or “Stereolithography” type 3D Printers, which we will explain later, and three FDM, or “Fused Deposition Modeling” 3D Printers, and we are strongly motivated to continue to increase the quality and number of our 3D Printers, particularly in the quality of the details in our 3D Models. We believe in the 3D Printing Technology and all its potential.

The 3D Printing Technology exists since the 1970’s, but with the features we know today, specifically the SLA, or “Stereolithography” 3D Printing type which exists since the mid 1980’s, when it was invented by Chuck Hull, Hideo Kodama, Alain Le Mehaute, Olivier de Witte and Jean Claude André, in 1984.

In 2021, there are seven types of 3D Printers, with diverse types of technology. The SLA type of 3D Printer can achieve a higher level of detail with the 3D models reaching complex interesting shapes, which is why we opted for this type of 3D Printing system. The FDM, or “Fused Deposition Modeling”, type of 3D Printer uses thermoplastic filaments, but can also use other types of composite materials, in their filaments. This 3D Printer can be a good solution for recycling, friendly to the Environment.

The Form 2 3D Printer, by Formlabs, was chosen for the production of Spark+Dreams Jewels, because of the exceptional quality of the models it produces. Our Jewels use the original Formlabs Castable Wax Resins, following the procedures described in the next image:

The SLA type of 3D Printer or “Stereolithography Apparatus” 3D Printer consists of building the 3D Model layer by layer through a laser light beam that hardens the liquid resin on a platform transforming it into a solid 3D Model, that was previously drawn on a 3D Modelling software. For the design of our 3D Models, we start with a sketch followed by its application in AutoCAD, Fusion and PreForm programmes. Sometimes we use other 3D Modelling software because we enjoy experimenting new paths. There are several types of liquid resins such as Castable Wax, Clear, White or Ceramic resins, among many others, which makes this process of production even more interesting.

The FDM type of 3D Printer or “Fused Deposition Modelling” 3D Printer is a completely different method. It applies an additive method, layer by layer, but through a filament, instead of liquid resin, and this filament has a large variety of materials that can be used, such as PLA, ABS, PETG or even Coffee, Wood, or Cork, and many more.

To produce your Jewellery and the models you wish we spend many hours studying, sketching and 3D modelling to discover the best solution for you, the solution that your heart desires, and this is only possible through the complex shapes drawn in the computer with 3D modelling, such as the previous examples, by developing detailed 3D models in AutoCAD, Fusion 360, Preform and others.
