Just last week, MX3D stainless-steel Bridge opened for the first time, in Amsterdam. This special bridge was 3D printed by Jori Laarman´s Lab, MX3D company and engineered by Arup, and was built with six robotic arms, using parametric modelling software. It was inaugurated by Her Majesty the Queen of the Netherlands, on the 16th of July 2021.
The MX3D Bridge was first planned, in 2015, and was developed for six years with an S-curved shape, inspired by Nature, reaching 12 meters long and a weight of six tons. Its construction took 6 months, in 2018, but it could only be placed now, for several reasons, including the renovations on this canal´s walls, in Amsterdam.
This 3D printed Bridge was designed by Joris Laarman Lab with the latest technology to produce a structure as light as possible, with integrated sensors that regulate its use and that will help researchers studying the role of IoT systems in a built environment.
